Self Portrait, 2025 - digital collage
Hello! Welcome to my portfolio! Whether you blew here by accident, fell down down Alice’s rabbit hole, or wandered here for a reason, all are welcome. If you found my page come join me for a cup of tea while I quickly tell you a little bit about myself and my work-
My name is Indiana and I am artist and historian living and working in Westchester New York (Lenapehoking, ancestral land of the Lenape people) but began my journey where I grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina (ancestral land of the Suara, Catawba, Cheerokee, Keyauwee, Sissipahaw, and Lumbee people.) Attending UNCSA for my BFA in Design and Production I studied various subjects such as color theory, art history, scenic artistry, sculpture, scenic design, lighting design, psychology, and carpentry. While still a student I began working as a fabrication artist and post graduation I traveled the country to work for various companies and studios such as Disney (Hawaii), The Spoleto Festival USA (South Carolina), The Clarice (Maryland), and The Glimmerglass Festival (New York), before moving to New York City in 2019 where I worked for Standard Transmission, Supermatic, and Konduit. As a fabrication artist from 2015-2022, I was fortunate to work on projects that included events, films, TV, commercials, potoshoots, musems, exhibits, and festivals.
After the global pandemic in 2020, I decided to build on my career and return to school for my MA. In 2021 I began my studies at NYU where I studied art history, the history of science and technology, anthropology, museum and design theory, decolonization, and collections management. During my time there I continued to work within fabrication as well as completing a collections management internship at The New York Botanical Gardens. It was around this time in 2022 that I began making original art and found that both my background in academia and in my personal life heavily impacted the style of the works I was creating.
Shortly after graduating from NYU in 2023 my life seemed swept away in the twister that carried Dorothy off to Oz. As I was handed my degree I was also handed a life-changing medical diagnosis that left me hospitalized for several months and caused me to lose my ability to walk, stand, hold a paint brush, and read. It was frightening and new and unexpected and I didn’t know what to do or if I would get those abilities back. It took a very long time and even still I am not able to do everything I used to be able to. But with strife came inspiration. I worked hard to learn to read again and through that experience I found a new and wholly different passion for books- I simply can’t put them down! Having known what it was like to lose the ability, I have chosen to dive head-first into any and every book I can get my hands on. Further, although I am not longer able to create art in the ways I used to, I have taught myself how to create works digitally and have combined my renewed love for my books, my academic history, and my passion for art to create works that reflect all that I have been through and all that I enjoy.
Currenlty, my art takes a whimsical and bright approach, creating digital pieces that combine motifs of the natural world, womanhood, books, and fantasy in overly colorful ways. Whether you are here to look at my “Women Who Read” collection (2025 - current), to scout out my playful design and logo work (2025 - current), or to check out my digital collages created for TikTok (2025 - current), please know that each are made with love, passion, and enthusiasim.
Thanks for visitng and please follow along for my artistic journey!
